How To Have A Great First Date With An American Woman

American women love the British accent; just look at Meghan and Harry! So if you have a date lined up with an American lady, it is likely that your accent will help – but it can also be useful to be prepared for any cultural differences. After all, American dating culture is very different to British dating culture!

Do you want to make sure you are prepared for your next date? If so, here are a few tips to help you ace your date with an American woman.

1. How To Ace The First Date With An American Woman: Don’t Expect Drinking

In Britain most dates take place in bars and restaurants, so it is totally standard to drink during the date – but this isn’t always the case in the US. In general people in the US don’t tend to drink as much, and some of the most popular date options (such as meeting for a coffee) are alcohol free. This may feel strange to start with, but there are lots of benefits to a sober date; you will be able to work out if you really like your crush or not, and you won’t have a hangover the next day. Winner winner!

2. Remember Dating Isn’t Always Exclusive

It is also important to be aware that dating doesn’t mean you are exclusive with someone. Lots of Americans have a casual attitude towards dating, so they are willing to date more than one person at once. This doesn’t mean they are necessarily being physically intimate with everyone they are dating; it just means they are getting to know a few people at the same time. Sure, this can seem a little harsh, but in reality it means you are more likely to find someone you actually connect with – and it also takes away a lot of the pressure that comes with exclusive dating.

3. Embrace The Day Time Dates

In America it is totally normal to go on day time dates as well as night time dates, so don’t be surprised if a woman asks to meet you for lunch, brunch or a coffee. This is a great way to break up the standard evening date routine (and it can also make dating a lot cheaper, especially if you start with coffee dates!).

4. Don’t Take Dating Too Seriously

As we mentioned earlier, most Americans approach dating with a casual attitude. So if you manage to bag a date with your crush, don’t assume they are attracted to you and only you. Instead focus on getting to know them, and don’t put too much pressure on the situation; let things flow naturally.

5. Don’t assume someone’s into you just because they agree to go on a date

As mentioned above, Americans are dating hobbyists, so you might find people prepared to go out with you just to keep their hand in, so to speak. They may not actually fancy you even a tiny bit. On an American date, it’s perfectly acceptable to turn up with platonic intentions, admit this early on and still have quite a nice time.

6. Don’t Expect Sex

Finally it is important not to expect sex. Every single person is different, so there is no way to know if your date will sleep with you in advance (and if that is your main priority, you might want to stick to hook up sites!). So enjoy the date, but don’t expect anything afterwards!
